More on Mirlo

I keep reading that the way to make money off the music biz nowadays is to put your music on platforms like Mirlo and BandCamp to get fans to purchase your music instead of streaming your music from some DSP for hundreds and hundreds less money. Admittedly, this makes sense other than the market for platforms like Mirlo and BandCamp is minimal compared to the DSPs. After all, I’ve been on BandCamp for almost 5 years and have plays totaling less than one days plays on 5-6 DSPs.

Garbage Picking, Part 3

I have gotten to the point that most nights, after it has cooled off, I wipe down the Clavinova, and set it up to do a set of rhythms and then riff to those rhythms. It’s been so much fun to do that I’ve neglected to do the music making that’ll result in an album I’m trying to put together for the https:// Mirlo.space web site, mainly to see if I can make some money off of Mirlo.

And another thing about the Clavinova that I may not have mentioned before is that it not only has, I think, 31 rhythms in its repertoire, but each of those rhythms has a variation that you can switch back and forth between. What a find! I don’t think the Casio CGP-700 that I paid hundreds for is as much fun to experiment with. Admittedly, I bought the Casio 10 years ago, when I first started playing keyboards after a decades-long hiatus, and the experience I’ve acquired is greatly enhancing the enjoyment I get from playing an instrument.

More on Music

More on Music; been fooling around with the Nervous Keys preset on my Arturia Microfreak lately. I kinda like the sounds it makes and I’m trying to find a drone sound to use with it. The gear that I’m experimenting with includes the Moog Mother-32 and the Moog Mavis. We’ll see how things go.

The new music that I’m working on I’m planning to upload to platforms I haven’t used before, Mirlo and bandwagon.fm. They’re platforms built to enable artists to keep more of the money generated from customer purchases. And as an extra benefit, no AI training from your music. The plan is to emulate SoundCloud and Bandcamp.

More on Spotify

Well, make me a liar. Spotify users numbers have gone up almost 200% over the past couple of weeks. I dunno whether they’re promoting emerging artists, or what the deal is. I still have nowhere the numbers that I had back in 2021, 2022 and 2023, when I had an average of more than 250 monthly listeners, but any increase is helpful.

Maybe I should try making more EDM type music. What do you think? More EDM or more of the same? Answers in comments, since WordPress doesn’t seem to support polls.

Well Between a Stomache Bug and Music Making…

I’ve been too busy to make any blog entries. For about 7-10 days, I got out a number of synthesizers and spent hours fiddling around with them. I got especially good results from a few of them, and made some recordings.

Then disaster struck. I seem to have come down with either a stomache bug or food poisoning. I still haven’t fully recovered and still feel a little woozy. So as soon as I feel up to it, it’ll be time to review the recordings I made to see if they’re releasable material.
